Even before the start of the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025, the football summer will be ushered in in Basel. On 21st and 22nd June 2025, the Women’s Streetfootball Euro 2025 will take place. This is an international street football tournament for women who find themselves in difficult life situations – whether due to unemployment, poverty, mental illness, refugee experiences or other strokes of fate. The concept of the tournament is oriented towards the goals and values of the Homeless World Cup.
The Surprise Association as the organizer of the tournament and the Host City Basel want to sustainably use the attention on women’s football generated by the UEFA Women’s Euro. Access to sport should become easier for all women, regardless of their life situation. Currently, many women in Switzerland have no opportunity to play football – whether due to poverty or other circumstances that exclude them from society. Surprise is committed to enabling women affected by poverty in Switzerland to play football, and provides these women with a tournament where they can compete against international opponents. The result is secondary – fun and fairness are the main focus.
